What Matters Most About Account Alerts

Alert Types

ithinkfi supports four alert categories: balance alerts, deposit alerts, debit alerts, and security alerts.

Each category watches a different part of your account and can be tuned independently. Balance alerts trigger when an account crosses a threshold you set, while deposit alerts confirm that money has arrived and debit alerts flag outgoing activity.

Security alerts sit outside normal money movement and notify you the moment account settings change, so you can respond before fraud escalates.

How to Set Up Alerts

Setting up ithinkfi account alerts takes about five minutes in the mobile app or online banking portal.

  1. Sign in

Open the ithinkfi mobile app or the online portal and sign in with your credentials.

  2. Open Settings

Select Account Alerts from the Settings menu.

  3. Choose an alert type

Pick balance, deposit, debit, or security alerts and set your thresholds.

  4. Select a delivery channel

Assign push, email, or text to each alert type.

  5. Save and verify

Save your choices and confirm the test alert arrives on your chosen channel.

Choosing Delivery Channels

Push notifications are the fastest channel, email creates a written record, and text messages work best for urgent security alerts.

You can mix channels freely and change them at any time. Many members pair push notifications for routine balances with text messages for security events, so urgent alerts always reach them even when the app is closed.

To enable text alerts, add your mobile number in the app and verify it with the code sent to your phone. If the verification code does not arrive, call customer service at 800-873-5100 and a specialist will confirm your number manually.

Alert Frequency and Timing

ithinkfi sends alerts in real time as events occur, with optional daily, weekly, or monthly balance summaries for members who prefer a lighter stream.

Transaction and security alerts fire the moment the event posts, which means a debit alert typically arrives within seconds of the purchase. There is no batching delay for security events under any setting.

Balance summaries are delivered on the schedule you choose and are consolidated into a single message rather than repeated notifications. Founded in 2012, ithinkfi has kept alert delivery free for every membership tier since launch.

Using Alerts for Fraud Prevention

Real-time alerts are one of the most effective defenses against card fraud because they let you freeze a card within minutes of an unauthorized transaction.

When a debit alert shows a charge you did not make, open the app, freeze the card, and contact customer service at 800-873-5100. Security alerts for new device sign-ins work the same way: a sign-in you did not perform means your password should be changed immediately.

Combine alerts with the practices in the Security guide and the controls on the Debit Card page. Eligible ithinkfi deposits remain insured by the NCUA up to $250,000, and our 25-person support team is available when an alert needs a human review.

The low balance alert saved me from an overdraft more than once. I get a push before I even open my banking app.

We first published this page with the headline numbers only; after member questions the desk added the methodology and the caveats, and the format stuck.

This guide does NOT cover trusts, institutional funds and non-resident files, which run through separate desks.

The published review confirms the headline figures on this page held for four consecutive quarters.

I set up debit alerts for anything over $100. When my card number was skimmed, I froze the card in seconds.
